The way it was described to me, if voltages within the range of the 
LVD appear on any port (including the mains power supply lead) on the 
equipment, then the LVD applies.

There are several standards dealing with voltages in excess of 1500V. 
 From your employer's details it's easy to jump to the conclusion that 
we are talking about electrical test equipment, but this may not be 
the case and it would probably be helpful if you could describe the 
context of your enquiry in a bit more detail if you want the Forum to 
be sure you've been given the help you need.
