Thank you, Jim. I understand the role of PSES and the good work it does, but the high percentages of failures at the test house indicate that much more should be done to decrease waste of time and money. That is the motive behind the slogan 'Design it in!' It seems clear that safety and EMC compliance are widely not being considered (or considered enough) in design and are being imposed at a late stage in development. Something needs to capture the attention of managers, so that compliance is considered right from the first steps of product design. Question 1 on the first 'Product proposal form' should be 'Which safety and EMC standards will need to be applied?' That is why we sponsor this list server, have a newsletter and have the yearly symposium. It is one of the few IEEE society's focused on the practicing engineer. One of the reasons I have been as successful at certification is due to having attended the EMC Society's and PSES Society's symposiums in the past. That gave me a chance to learn from those that are experts in their fields. From a safety stand point I have learned a lot from Rich Nute by talking to him in person, by reading his articles, as well as his postings to this list. For the PSES to survive we need the experts in the compliance field to be members of the society and to write articles for the newsletter and to do presentations at the symposium. This year's symposium has 5 tracks over three full days. Helping others be as successful as I have been, is the reasons I am doing 3 presentations at the symposium next week. I would like to see the experts on this list help get your suggestion into action and help educate the ones getting into compliance, by getting active with the IEEE PSES. . Jim
