Many years ago when you could still call the FCC and actually talk to someone I discussed this industrial plant exemption with them. I was working for an industrial computer company and management wanted to install specific 3rd party control cards and sell as a package. The problem was that those control cards didn't pass the Class A limit. The FCC asked me to send them my specific question so that they could pass it around for discussion. The conclusion that they sent me was that an industrial computer is exempt if it is used EXCLUSIVELY for control. If the device is also used for any function apart from control then it was not to be considered exempt. This means, for example, that if the computer is also storing, distributing, or printing data then it is not exempt.

Hi,

is for a modular 19'' draw-out unit system with a power supply and control unit to control LED modules for industrial application in the laboratory environment (EU: EN 61010-1, EN 61326-1 for LVD and EMCD) the FCC requirements mandatory?

In my point of view the answer is “yes”.

And I have recommended my customer to apply the FCC Part 15 method “verification”. Is that totally wrong?
