I've never seen that before doing multiple passes with .030 wire and CO2/Argon 
gas.

I work with a company that uses 600 amp sub arcs to do build ups on rotary 
wheels and that slag falls off by itself by the time the wheel makes a full 
rotation (wheels are 24" in diameter).   They oftentime build up the wheels 
surface by more than 1/2 an inch.

I have a big flux core wire feeders as well (portable suitcase style), one is 
setup with 1/16" wire and that slag does not peel of by itself (wish it did).   
The slag is very similar to what occurs with 6011 sticks running on DC current. 
  Very thin.
