Greetings; I finished up the hand wired board today, powered it up and did some testing.
1. just under 40 ma of led current would appear to be plenty as that turns on the phototransistor hard enough I show .089 to .091 volts when looked at by one of my digital DVM's that has a diode scale. Thats a great plenty of OC pulldown IMO, Going back to that BoB someone (Steve Stallings?) said was slow, I'll preface that its opto outs are faster than what the DM860 or the DM542 says it needs, so for me, it appears the speeds are sufficient as I can run a jog at better than a meter a minute, which to me is about 10x faster than the little mill can run. I have a db25f socket coming that with care I can install on that ultra cheap Mach3 BoB that came with a db25m input. Production mistake? DamnifIknow. But back to the opto inputs on the "slow" BoB, they are prewired to deal with OC signal sources. A 100 ohm r from any of those to ground pulls about 11 ma, and give me a solid TRUE readin on a halmeter. So next I need to round up some shielded 4 conductor cable about mouse cable sized and wire it up. Looking at the motor cover, theres room enough to mount this, once ground or sawed down to just the height occupied by the slot interrupter plus a half inch or so on one end to attach the cable to, make an alu angle mount from some 1/2" angle that is mounted via slots so the scanned circle of the wheel can be matched, then find some 3mm screws at least 20mm long, make a spacer to hold this disk above the speed display opto so it spins in the middle of the gap, and I should be good to go. I haven't tested it yet, might have to relieve some of the opto center bar on the middle one so the middle one only sees the index. I am beginning to get antsy, maybe by the time my son gets here on the 7th, I might have a working rpm display. But that is commented out ATM, some missing gladevcp stuff in the install prevents activating it. Or, did I tell pncconf to use the wrong gfx engine? It gave me a choice and ISTR my camera is using gladevcp pieces so I checked that. I should check & see what I am using on the lathe for that as its a rotary dial, 270 degree display. Details to contend with and I seem to worry ahead of time, sometimes needlessly. And the washing machine is telling me to go take care of a load of jeans, so I'd better get to it. I hope every one is safe on this most dangerous hiway travel day of the year. Particularly when the maniac/mainsleeze media is telling us to be aware ISIS has been making threats.
