well I did get it installed,  but I had to start it  with different  kernel options.

It wants to start from /dev/sde, while it installed on /dev/sda

Mine was a stretch install.  I booted a live from USB, ran the latency test and told it to install using the text based installer.  I told it to bypass the network but the rest was defaults.

    well I am trying to install

    linuxcnc-stretch-uspace-amd64.iso

    But it calls the first drive sde, and after that it says it cannot find a
bootable device (it starts grub though) I think that grub is messed up.

    and I still don't know if it will do that python stuff right.

    The GUI installer has problems with my wifi dongle. The dongle works fine

    also, on that Stretch installation. if you try to install on anyting
    other then the first sata port, it names the device /dev/sde, even

    I think the installer is broken, I have seen that earlier.

    Also, I managed to install "LinuxCNC Uspace 2.7.0 Debian 9 Stretch"
    <http://www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/>
<http://www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/>

    BUT: there are two issues with that.

    1: It does not want to install if there is more than one drive in the
    system, which I can dodge by turning other drives off in the BIOS

    2: There are issues with pyton, it is trying to use something that is
    not there, files missing, when I start the "stepper config"
