I'm trying my best to avoid this, but so far I haven't been very successful. The problem is that Thunderbird tries to read every message upon receipt in order to add its content to the "Global Search Database." For this purpose, it processes the message internally which also involves calling Enigmail if it's a PGP/MIME encrypted message. All I can do is try to detect by various ways that the message is automatically processed and then not attempt to decrypt it.
