Surly vlc changed some behavior between 1.x and 2.x versions.
Now we require 2.x so everything should be easier now... or did you
see differences between different 2.x versions ?

This evening I successfully made some changes in the current vlc engine,
removing  quite all of the hack that are in the loading phase. Seems to work
well for now...It does not fix all the bugs but I'm probably in the right
direction.
