Jason et al:

We have made Enterasys work with Cisco since 1995. The only problems we have
had is when Cisco did not really support an industry standard like they said
they did. However, even in those few cases we have found ways to work around
it. In addition, the Enterasys GTAC can help you solve most any Enterasys to
Cisco interconnection problem.

Did you buy Netsight Software? If you REALLY want to save time do whatever you
have to do to get it. Kill to get it! After you use it for 6 months to a year
you will wonder how you managed a network without it.

If you have a bunch of Enterasys in one network look up GVRP if you want to
save time on vlans (hint GVRP is standards based VTP). In fact I used to be
able to read about GVRP a lot on the Cisco site; all of that was CatOS that
supported GVRP.

We have found Enterasys to be less expensive on initial purchase, less costly
maintenance, a long lasting product, better tech support from company, easier
to manage, a more extensive and programmable tool set, giving us more
information about devices/users on the network...in general allowing us to do
more with less saving lots of time and money.

Going to Enterasys training will certainly help. I had to read the
configuration guides from front to back when I was introduced to Enterasys. It
also helps to have a test switch or two. Eventually you will adapt.

Thanks,

Hi,

To connect Enterasys to cisco switchs, on catalyst switch :
- use spanningtrée mst mode.
- disable cdp and use lldp if your ios and switch is compatible
- on inter switch link, disable dtp, switchport nonegotiate
- for link aggregation use lacp or étherchannél (lacp static at Enterasys side
for etherchannel)

Bye,

Cordialement,
Sylvain CONTI.

Hi,

To créate a vlan :
Set vlan créate (vlanid)
Set vlan name (vlanid) (vlannamé)

To créate switchport access :
Set port vlan (port) (vlanid) modify-égress

To créate a switchport trunk :
set vlan egress (vlanid) tagged

If you have an access to Enterasys documentation you can thé feature guide.

Sylvain CONTI.

I am having trouble getting them configured at all. The commands are very
different than on Cisco switches.

I know I have to create all of the vlans on the Enterasys switches because they
don’t recognize VTP but I am not having any luck.

What is the problem you are having? We have Enterasys to Cisco back to
Enterasys and vice versa... Sending trunked vlans both directions.

Thanks,
Reese

Hello All,

Until now, we have been a Cisco network. We recently purchased Enterasys
switches and I am having trouble getting them connected to our Cisco network.
Does anyone have any experience adding Enterasys switches to a Cisco network?
