Joseph, your suggestions are very good, and don't worry, I'm guessing
there's a lot of people on the list (possibly lurkers like myself) who would
agree with you. After all the hours and dedication that the Microsoft team
put in, and all the hours that others on this list contribute, I sometimes
feel that essential truths get overlooked. A case of not seeing the wood for
the trees, perhaps? A couple of essential truths then: Of course software
should work first time out of the box. And you're right, the core features
shouldn't need propping up with third party workarounds, and when Paul says
"There was a LOT of information available as to exactly what did and what
didn't work between Entourage and Palm when it was released," and that if
you missed this you have "only yourself to blame", he is just plain wrong
(sorry Paul).

If Paul were to step out of his 'Applescript forest' and look at an ordinary
person buying software in the street, he might see someone who has no prior
knowledge of dedicated email lists like this one. Who, perish the thought,
might not even have email! (Please, no fainting, I realise this is a tricky
concept). This could be a person who has purchased their first iMac; likes
Palm Desktop and, believing the salesman/advertising handout (whatever),
expects Entourage to be a product that builds upon - and is better than Palm
Desktop. Now in my opinion Entourage has the potential to be just that, but
it isn't there yet. It appears that basic problems with Entourage and Palm
are giving people fairly major headaches. The kind of problems that mean
they need to arm themselves with specialised help groups (this list) and
make use of Paul's maverick and unflagging scripting talents. This is all
great, but we shouldn't pretend it's right. Just as we shouldn't be
complacent about software that hardly ever, (sometimes never?) works first
time out of the box, or console ourselves in the knowledge that six months
down the line it will finally do what it was billed to do on Day One. Yet we
do. For some unfathomable reason we've all been acclimatised to buy the
equivalent of a three wheeled car and wait for eternity before we can take
it out for a proper spin! (Naturally this problem is not specific to
Microsoft - for True Believers, hello OneClick!)

Meanwhile Remo Del Bello's reported method for cleaning up the sync problems
between his Palm and E'rage; (starting with a hard reset - reset the
Palm...wiping out all information), neatly sums up why my copies of
Entourage still sit unopened in their shrink-wrapped clam shells! (not
forgetting speed, banner, and date issues). I'm patiently waiting for
Day One!

And I remaining optimistic at all times. <g>

Peter.
