I know this is totally OT for this list, but I can't figure out who else to
ask and I'm going crazy. For some reason, the situation where Word and Excel
think that they should save documents as Word 98 and Excel 98 has
*reappeared* for me. I had this problem months ago, went to the ms web site,
discovered I needed to get rid of Office 98, downloaded the "remove Office
98" program, ran it, and had 2001 documents (I have to admit that although I
know the Word docs were 2001, I probably didn't check Excel, since at the
time I wasn't doing much with it). Today I went to save an Excel workbook as
something else and noticed that it was being saved as Excel 98. I checked to
see if there was *anything* on the computer that seemed to be a remnant of
Office 98, and did find 3 Excel prefs that were designated (8) instead of
(9). I trashed them. Searched for everything else I could think of and
didn't find anything. Restarted. Opened Excel, did a "save as" and found it
only had Excel 98 as a format choice. Then, for some reason that escapes me
at the moment, I decided to double check Word, and that *also* had reverted
to saving things as Word 98! What did I do to cause this? And more
importantly, how can I get rid of it? I did look at the Normal template in
Word, and it's a 2001 document. I even tried re-downloading the "remove
Office 98" file from the ms web site, but it won't even create the program,
it just creates "remove Office 2001" presumably because I don't have Office
98 on the computer. I've now started tearing my hair out. Any ideas of what
I might do or where I might look for help? TIA and again, sorry to post this
here, where it clearly doesn't belong, since Entourage didn't exist in
Office 98, so it can't revert.
