I think you may have misunderstood my question. I'm not trying to pirate, just looking for the cheapest _legal_ way to purchase the software I need. > you are breaking your covenant with Bill. Actually, Bill allows you to run the software on two machines, according to the Microsoft Sales Tech I spoke to originally. When it got down to brass tacks, I found out that meant not simultaneously. A bit misleading, as you don't have to be running the programs in order for them to be disabled. As long as one machine is running upstairs (this is a home network!) I can't use my laptop to retrieve email with Entourage. > And you are admitting to this in a public forum on the internet! Hmm! > To be honest, I don't really have a problem with breaking my covenant with Bill, but I think you're misreading my intent. I'm not trying to pirate anything, but looking for the better way of running the software on more than one machine on my network. Usually this means a site license, which is much cheaper than buying individual copies at $499 each. For example, I remember seeing pricing on Filemaker at one time for $299, and a site license for 2-10 users for $799 (this was some time ago). I'm hoping this option - if available for Office X - won't cost me that much. I'm sure large corporations don't pay retail for every copy of Office on their network. If I can do this for less than the $149 each I've already paid, that would be a plus. Otherwise, since that offer has probably already expired, I would need to shell out $1996 for four copies. Ouch. I think the existing pricing scheme was fine before wireless networking. But I think it is ridiculous to have to pay that much money to do what I want to do. I have a Titanium G4, my wife uses a G3 Lombard, daughter uses an iBook, and we have an iMac in the kitchen my wife uses to look up recipes. Are you telling me that I need to spend $2,000 to use Microsoft Office on these machines? Does Bill really deserve your protection? > I guess the answer is in order to run two copies simultaneously, they cannot > both be on the network at the same time. Since Entourage reminders runs in the background and starts up automatically when you log on to OS X, I think one machine would prompt to quit or worse, crash. Anyone out there figured out a way to do this without breaking the bank? Richard E.
