MORE INFO added to my own last post. But still not solved.

Except that one time after that I got a more complete error: The action could not be completed. An unknown error (4362) occurred. But then it went back to the first message, without any error number. But now, if I double-click a message to see it in its own window, that message then appears in the Preview - and remains the message in the preview no matter how many other messages I click on in whatever windows. And when I double-click another message, then that one becomes the message in Preview. Another symptom is that I cannot drag a message from one folder (aka inbox) to another. And... The Auto-complete/suggest feature in the To field of an email does not work at all. I have to locate the address in the address book and drag that address into the To field, or know and type the address in full.
