I tend to archive in FileMaker Pro. But I've read a bit about "Valentina," a new high-performance database which is currently available for free trial download, $50 shareware. It is really a database <engine>; there has to be something driving it like an AppleScript or RealBasic application, but apparently (according to the developer) it is way faster than FMP, and can handle huge text fields. Here is the description from versiontracker.com:
Valentina X - 1.9 Scriptable ultrafast DBMS Product Description: Valentina Application is based on Valentina kernel. It provides the ability to develop database structure, browse and edit records, do search and sorting, import and export. It supports AppleScript that allows you use it on the WEB. Valentina kernel is an extremely fast and powerful cross-platform cross-application Object-Relational database engine. Valentina has all types of fields from Bit to BLOB, support SQL, full text indexing, RegEx search. It can be accessed from a lots of APIs: C++, Java, AppleScript, REALbasic, FutureBASIC, Director, xCards, COM, WebSiphon. I am dying to have someone give some decent feedback on this. I keep hoping to have time to try to sketch out a simple E-mail archive with it, to see how it performs, but so far I have not been able to find the time. -- To unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> archives: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/> old-archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/>
