Thanks, Peter.  I was thinking that I might have to go to the ISP directly
(but was really hoping I could spare myself the time and grief of their
"customer service").  I did already check both "Sent" boxes (since I do have
an IMAP account) and these messages in question are in neither of them.

On to the next step....
