Earthlink seems to allow multiple names for the sending server. I've used
all three: "pop","mail", and "smtp". Never tried "smtpauth". There have been
times over the several years I've been an Earthlink customer that the server
name I was using stopped working. For example, if I was using "smtp" it
might just hang up and time out while attempting to send. If I changed it to
"mail" or "pop" it would start working again. So I really don't know if
there is a "correct" one to use. I'd go with whatever the documentation you
received says, or what their web site currently says.

For me, it current says "pop.earthlink.net" for incoming mail,
"smtp.earthlink.net" for sending. Yet I've had it set to "mail" for both
since I can remember. I'll try changing it to see if it works any
differently.
