For goodness' sake. just tell them not to move it. End of story. Who cares
if they "want to" move it? Maybe they "want to" move their computer to the
ceiling too. If they're savvy enough to understand aliases, they can use an
alias.

The whole point of having the data in the MUD folder in Documents is to
prevent clueless users from accidentally overwriting their data as always
happened when it was kept in the application's own folder, which was the
usual method back in classic Mac. When you updated versions, and replaced or
trashed the old version, you could easily lose all your data. The very first
app I know of which ensured that wouldn't happen was OE 5.0.2, followed by
its son and heir Entourage 2001. The idea to putting the MUD in the
Documents folder was probably inspired by Windows. It was the obvious place
to do it in OS 9.

Now in OS X, a much more rational system, Apple has come up with a user
folder's Application Support folder. That's now probably the best place for
this sort of stuff, but MacBU thought of this before Apple, so they've stuck
with user Documents folder for now, to avoid inconsistency when upgrading
from X to 2004. Maybe in a later release, they'll change it.

In the meantime, just tell your users to leave it be. They can just learn a
few rules if they want to use particular apps such as Entourage. One of
those rules is "Leave the MUD folder where it is, or put it anywhere you
want and an alias in the correct location." If they care more about putting
MUD somewhere else without an alias than they do about learning how it
works, they don't deserve to have Entourage. They should use a dumbed-down
app instead and not confuse their overtaxed brains.

PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - **2004**, X
or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions otherwise.
