I don¹t know if this will work, but it won¹t hurt anything.  Go to
Tools>Accounts>your IMAP account>Edit>Advanced

I was having a similar problem to yours with my AOL account and I chose the
second option.  The message 'deleted' and I haven't had the problem since.
If that doesn't work, try the first option.
