Based on your and other's comments, it is now clear that the freezing
problem is not exclusive to Intel MacBooks, as was suggested in the MacWorld
posting regarding the temporary fix.

Same here, it's been a couple of days plus since I turned it off, and no
more freezes, so far. However, there were also periods in the past when I
didn't see a freeze for many days and occasionally even for a week or two,
so it is still way too early to be 100% sure. If, in another week, no
freezes have occurred, then I will assume that turning off "Perform Database
Integrity Check in the Background" eliminated the problem.

Yep, that's still an unknown. I created a recurring task to remind me once
a week to reactivate "Perform Database Integrity Check in the Background"
and I will probably leave it on for most of a day each time, then turn it
off again. Hopefully, that will keep Entourage "clean" enough that other
problems won't materialize.....
