How long are you waiting before you conclude nothing is happening and

up. 2GB is not a small database despite your saying "only 2gb" (I can
be bad
at times at deleting old mail and mine is only around 500MB).
I don't remember my own experience upgrading to 2008 but I'd expect the
database conversion of the identity to take a long time. If you've
tried it
"several times" and only wasted a "whole day", you've probably been
giving
up too soon.
