If you want plain TTL considering purchasing a third party flash. Most work
only in ttl. The new Sunpak 5000 or Sigma have plenty of power and reasonable
price. What I don't like about e-ttl or ttl is the programming always biases
the exposure for the max ambient light effect. Use an f2 lens and the flash
will pick f2 even though sufficient light output is available for say ... f8.
At times, I prefer more depth of field and must set the camera to manual and
ttl. a-ttl (540ez) will biase the exposure to a smaller aperature when close
to the subject or with fast film. I wish the flashes had a switch... max
ambient effect, or smallest possible aperature.
