Hello Rick,
I was in Italy and France a few months ago. I took an A2E with a
Canon 24-85mm and a Sigma 17-35mm. I loved having the Sigma 17-35mm
and I used it a lot. I never once wished I had a telephoto lens and
it was good to travel relatively light. I think that the Canon EF
100-400mm is a great lens for sports or wildlife photography, but not
exactly as a general purpose travel lens. If you find you need a
telephoto lens I would recommend the Canon 70-200mm f/4.0L or the
Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 APO EX HSM. They cost about the same. If you're
worried about hand-holding a tele lens you could always shoot 400
speed film. The negative film that I like the most is either Fuji NPS
400 or Kodak Porta VC 400. Good luck.
Charles
P.S. Try not to send html to the list. :)
