Hello Rick,

Have you considered buying a prime? You could buy a 200/2.8L for about the
same money as the 70-200/4 and combine it with a 1.4x or 2x Teleconverter
to enhance your range and still travel light. It is one stop faster than the
70-200/4 and weighs half as much as the 100-400. Another plus is the great
speed which could be handy when shooting wild life or portraiture to blur
the background.
Owning the 28-135 IS I can tell you that it is a very versatile lens, which
is ideal for everyday use. I would think of it as a replacement for your
28-80. If you plan to buy it one day, don't spend your money in the
70-200/4 since the difference between 135mm and 200mm isn't that big and
the difference in speed isn't big enough either. As a second lens to your
28-80 the 70-200 would be very good as it is said to be an excellent lens
(I have no first hand experience but read a lot about it).
