Well, I was one of those who chose the 35/2. I did it mainly
because of the nice focal length combined in light weight.
Of course the FTM feature would be great so 35/1.4L might be
even better but I have never tried it (and I didn't want to
make selections based on dreams like we often do).

But I usually focus where the subject is. If I need to focus
somewhere else I point and focus there and recompose. It is still
faster than manually focusing with EOSes (no good for manual
focusing), I feel.

Actually I AE and AF often in the same way: I select where I
want to AE and/or AF, press the button ('*' for AF and/or
'shutter' for AE), recompose and fire. Not always but often.

In those rare cases when I really want to "misfocus" and there is
nothing where to set the AF sensor I switch to manual focus (it
is there...;-) ) which makes things slower than using FTM but
has never been a problem yet.
In many cases having the lens at 'M' all the time is also good
enough.

Vesa
