Well, the problem with the 1200mm would probably be the weight. I don't
know if you can actually manipulate a lens that huge with good
results. Even with the proper tripod head, I personally believe a lens
like that is rather useless... Too big, and you have to cut through way to
much air to get to you subject, which ruins the image quality.
I understand some photographers have used the 2x TC + 1.4x TC combo on the
600mm f/4 lens with good results. For having seen such pictures, I'm
rather impressed.
I'm wondering if Canon is planning to release an EF800mm f/5.6 lens... I
haven't seen it in any lens catalog so far...
