That might be true but IMHO you have to take a long-term view over which
camera provider will offer the best  overall value and fit to your
requirements. That might sound pompous but, for instance, AIUI Nikkon was
somewhat slower at introducing IS lens... and if you need that type of
thing.

There has been speculation about this new body for some time and I fear
there are whispers about whispers about whispers.  Until then I'm happy
with my pair of DCS520s (D2000s).  I would have tried a D30 but they use
different storage medium, different batteries etc.  I only want to take one
charger, one set of batteries etc on a job (especially when overnighting or
longer) and the camera bag weighs enough already without a separate
non-compatible set of storage media, battery chargers, leeds etc etc etc.

At that price, I could buy a couple Nikon lenses with a new D1!  I've been
avoiding changing to Nikon due to my investment in Canon lenses (among
other
reasons).  However, with a body in that price range, the lenses become
secondary--especially if you consider buying a backup body.
