I think one of the possible flys in the ointment is that noone knows the
'format' of the new rumoured pro-model based on a 1V. It is likely, given
its size, I would guess to use the ATA Flash Cards as are used on the
DCS-520/D2000 as well as the same battery. If that is the case it will make
the upgrade path for existing Canon digital professional users easier and
less stressful (maybe they'll keep a spare D2000 body as the spare body in
the bag without need for extra chargers, storage media etc).

The D30, while having an interesting specification, seems to be either
loved or hated (derided) as a bit of a toy for serious professional use due
to perceived drawbacks such as colour shift, speed-to-write, weight and
suchlike. I think it was either Rob Galbraith's site or dppreview.com (one
linked to the other) which had a series of very well-informed articles on
the d30 and its merits, or otherwise.

For another year I've seen no reason to throw away my DCS-520es.

I must wonder at the statement: "I just spoke with a Canon dealer who was
showing me the D30... he said that the older D2000 is inferior to the new
D30 in every way (except maybe..."

Well since he couldn't sell you a D2000 what would he do... say go Nikkon..
or maybe trash something which is harder/more expensive to get (There are
loads of DCS-520es if you go to Kodak and they are several thousand dollars
cheaper!).

I just spoke with a Canon dealer who was showing me the D30... he said
that the older D2000 is inferior to the new D30 in every way (except maybe
in construction... that wasn't talked about...). D30 is much better than
D2000 and it seems that magazines are buying all the D30's they can get.
