I just spoke with a Canon dealer who was showing me the D30... he said
that the older D2000 is inferior to the new D30 in every way (except maybe
in construction... that wasn't talked about...). D30 is much better than
D2000 and it seems that magazines are buying all the D30's they can get.
So far they've sold every D30 immediately - this one they reserved for
themselves to use for testing and such... The D30 package that they were
selling (I think it included the 1Gb IBM drive at least, maybe some other
extras too - BTW, the magazines have been asking to get 2 500Mb disks
instead...) is somewhere around $3700 (with heavily rounded exchange rate)
and the D2000 was about $12800. The D2000 isn't sold anymore (at least it
seems that nobody is buying them), and some people (well magazines) have
asked Canon about giving the D2000 in return for a new D30... but Canon
will only give about $700 for an old D2000!! No there is no error in the
figures. The D2000 is so outdated when compared to the D30 (at least
according to Canon). So it seems that the D30 is the camera to get now.
But remember that in a few years the D30 will suffer the same fate. But
then again, if you need this for yout job, then that is not a large issue.
The price is right for professionals already and it works very well. Nice
camera!

For amateur use, I'd wait untill the sensor is the same size as 35mm film
- as amateurs seldomly have the 17-35L to use as 'normal lens' :-)
- and that the price is somewhere around $1400 (or what ever the EOS 3 was
when it was introduced.)

Best regards,
        Hugo.
