I am usually a big fan of only buying gear that has a viable AA battery
option. But after using a G1 for a few months I can tell you that the BP-511
rechargables that go with the D30, G1 and Pro 90 IS are really great. I
think its a lot nicer to have one or two of these tiny self-contained
batteries than having to deal with a kazillion AA's. And since you don't
have LCD preview the D30 will shoot 540 shots on one of those tiny little
batteries--or 1080 with the verticle grip. It's incredible. At $60 each they
are a bargain.

The review I read said that it exhausts one battery then draws from the
