Of course, for some folks, the only real bird lens is a 600mm. But, I have gotten
very respectable results with the 300/2.8L and Canon's 2x extender (which I only use
out of necessity), when used on a tripod and with a sharp, fine-grain film. I can
send you an example if you'd like.
