How about getting the 300 f/4L IS and the 1.4 TC instead of the 100-400 IS?
What is the quality (sharpness and contrast) of the 300 f/4L IS Lens?
Photodo and Photozone rate it highly, but Chasseur d'Images found it to be
so-so...
