to see differences in optical quality, althought not scientific, it
confinced me.
I myself bought the 50/1.4 (just last week) because the price for a
secondhand 50/1.8 MKI is about $100 til $ 130 including shipment and paying,
and the price for the secondhand 50/1.4 was $255. So in case you are buying
secondhand the price-difference is not four times but about two times.
Taking in account the difference in sharpness at large apperture (where I
want to use it for), I decided to go for the 50/1.4. Stepped down the
difference isn't that much, so then the 1.8 would be the obvious choice
IMHO.
