Well the hood is about 80mm long... but I admit to a little
exaggeration, it doesn't really focus inside the hood (with
any reasonable extension anyway), but nonetheless close enough
for the hood to get seriously in the way (like, bump on 
part of what I'm trying to get at).

Yes: I use the hood unless I have a reason not to,
not the other way round.
