You're in trouble. That's just the kind of photo where 35mm fails.
Normally enlargements are not looked at close enough for the
resolution to be a problem, but in a group shot everybody will
be looking closely for their own face, and be disappointed if
it doesn't look as sharp as an individual shot would be.
There's no way you can do that with 35mm equipment.
You'd really need at least medium format, preferably panoramic
(say, 6x12) or large format camera for that kind of shot.
If you still are going to do it with your EOS gear:
Use the sharpest lens you can, at its best aperture
(but make sure you get enough DoF),
and as fine-grained film as possible.
Try to get some reflectors for the flashes, if not
umbrellas then some Lumiquest-type things.
The 45-degree-angle idea is probably good.
If possible go to the site in advance to plan
the flash and camera locations and to determine
focal length needed - prefer longer if you can
get far enough.
