I agree with the previous poster don't do this shot with a 35mm camera!!
Rent a medium format camera or tell them to get another photographer. These
types of gatherings are rare and it would be a shame to screw up a group
picture that will be used as a gift.
Also don't take large group shots like this with a zoom lens. 99.9% of wide
angle zoom lenses exhibit distortion at their wide end. This is especially
evident in group shots and architechture. I have two expensive 35mm wide
angle zooms that both cost around $600 bucks, and they suck at group shots.
You can get a cheap Fuji 690III SW camera for about $600-900. Rent some big
lights and bounce the light. It has the same proportions as 35mm film and
will blow up nicely to a 20x30 print. Women generally don't look good in
harsh direct light. If you don't like the camera sell it used for what you
bought it for.

Subject: EOS Photo of large group
I will be grateful for any thoughts or suggestions about
photographing a large group of people.
Here is the situation: My daughter is in an organization that will
have a regional meeting in March. There will be about 100 girls and
women, all in fancy dress. They want a "good" group photo. It will
be enlarged and presented as a gift to some dignitary at a later
meeting. They asked me to take that photo.
The photo probably will be indoors. In March we cannot rely on
having good weather for an outdoor shot. The room where this will
be taken is a typical low budget meeting hall -- no windows,
overhead lighting, cream walls.
The equipment I have includes: Elan IIe, two 550EXs, one ST-e2
transmitter, a Tokina 28-80 pro, Canon 28-135 IS.
I am considering setting the two flashes at 45 degree angles to the
group, or perhaps one on camera and one bounced.
Also, how does one keep 100 women in fancy dress all organized
long enough to arrange the flashes, etc.
Please give any advice or suggestions that seem appropriate.
