But it may harm the paint on the mount!

I use "opti-clean" a kind of polymer that is 'painted' on the lens/filter, you
wait till it's dry and then, with the help of a sticker, you just peel it off.
Quite neat and spot clean results: No residues, dust or fingerprints.

I also have Kodak's lens cleaner but it leaves a residue. I don't like it.
