Julian,
High Speed Sync & 2nd Curtain sync certainly don't make sense together,
but -at least on my 50E- you can have both active. Of course, the flash
will go during the whole duration of the exposure instead of at the
second curtain.
I can't speak about other EOS models. Somebody?
