Hi Julian,
Since you seem to be using your Elan 7 quite a bit, I thought I'd ask this
question of you. I just bought one (from Cameraworld, thanks to the heads-up
from a list member regarding their recent sale) to replace my EOS 5--the 7
better meets my needs in a backup body to the EOS 3 (not least because it works
more like the 3 than the 5 does)--and I noticed in the instructions that it says
to be sure to press the lock button when turning the command dial. However, for
the modes I use, it isn't possible to keep the lock button depressed when
turning the dial, because the button passes by the pentaprism housing as the
dial turns and there's no room for my fingers there. :-) I assume that the
manual *means* to say to press the lock button when turning on the camera, but
that's not what it says. I suppose that I'm looking for some reassurance that
the 7 won't suffer from the 5/A2 command-dial problem due to turning the dial
without having the lock button depressed. Do you have an opinion in this regard?
Another question I have pertains to the EF 28-105/3.5~4.5 (old version) that I
just picked up to go with the 7 for hiking/backpacking use (this also pertains
to the 20-35/3.5~4.5): The instructions say to switch to manual mode for manual
focusing, and cautions to not touch the focus ring when focusing using the AF.
Does this mean that this lens does not support full-time manual focusing even
though it's a USM lens? I have assumed that my 20-35 and now the 28-105 have
FTM, and I've not noticed any unusual resistance when using the focusing ring
with the lens set to AF, but the instructions seem to indicate otherwise. Any
ideas?
Thanks!
