It does look like there's a wee springy bit inside the camera's lens
mount...

Let me preface by saying that I try to handle my gear very carefully, and in
the case of the 100-400 I always support the lens. I just mounted the
100-400, though, and held only the camera both right-side up and upside-down
and didn't see any movement or hear any creaking. I'm not willing to put any
pressure on it!
