I have small hands, yet the BP-300 makes the 7/30 considerably more comfortable
for me to hold. However, one of the primary reasons I bought the 7 was to use as
a compact, lightweight hiking/backpacking lens, and in those situations the
BP-300 will stay home; the camera handles well enough without it. But in other
situations I'll probably always use the battery pack. It would be nice if it had
its own main dial, like the VG-10 and PB-E2, but it is still quite functional.
Can't say whether it would help with your creaking noise, though.
