Hi Jansen,
The moulded plastic handgrip on my Elan 7E Date also creaks
when the hand grip is squeezed. It doesn't affect my pictures.
The squeaking is neither improved nor worsened with the use
of the BP-300. However, the balance of the camera in my hand
is much better.
My EOS 1000FN has done the same thing for 7 years. It has a
different squeak that is also not affected with use of a BP-50.
If the squeaking REALLY bothers you, it is possible to fix it
by applying A VERY SMALL AMOUNT of plastic-compatible lubricant
to the horizontal seam near the shutter release button. Canon
would probably not approve :-(

P.S. I think the squeak is noticable only because the Elan 7E
is so quiet :-)
