Hi Billy,
The flashing appears to be a normal occurance. When there is no
eye detected at the viewfinder, the Camera will revert to automatic
focus point selection, even is ECF is turned on.
This might come in useful if you have set up your camera on a
tripod and then use the remote release, for instance.
