Thanks very much for taking the time to do this. I still cannot see the 
grooves clearly BUT what I CAN see is white printing in the background that 
says 'Canon  xxxx Cord 2'.

I do not have this on my unit, all I have is moulded into the plastic head, 
in black, saying 'Canon OFF-Camera Shoe Cord' - No 1 and definitely no 
2!!   Looks like I have the Shoe Cord 1 as Kim suggested.

Many Thanks to everyone for their help with this. My local Jessops (US=B&H) 
store has one in stock and I will pick it up later today.
