On the flash end of the Off Camera Shoe Cord 2, there's a tripod
threaded hole in the bottom centre of the plastic block. On either side
there should be a groove that slips into a flash shoe. there's no metal,
just grooves in the plastic block. If it doesn't have the grooves, there's
something wrong, as it has to be able to attach to a flash bracket. Maybe
it's a reject? Is it old? If it's a new one, take it back and get another. I
can't imagine Canon ever making one that didn't have these grooves, this
unit is primarily designed to do what you want it to, that is: attach to a
flash bracket.
Another member pointed out that theirs is the same as mine, that is with
a groove on each side.
