Julian, try using P mode for those situations, and use the manual focus to
'touch up' your focus. I find I use this sometimes when I'm in need of a
quick, no-think grab shot. AIFocus has screwed me up a few times with focus
shifting when I don't want it to. I have a custom function set so I can
manually touch up my focus manually in one shot mode. Do you use this custom
function on your 7? I'm not sure what difference it makes, perhaps the focus
lock light stays on, I think you can touch-up your focus without it, not
really sure.
