I would have put the ZOOM in bold because it is so important here.
With zooms, especially wide-range ones, unless you are working at the
wide-angle end the hoods are next to useless anyway. Unless you have
a zooming lens hood (someone made one once but not for Canon?).
Of course, if you use your

The only shots where a hood might spoil are IMO macro ones where the
reduced working distance AND increased shadowing *might* be an issue.
