Hi Kim .... Under NO circumstances would I let this person handle my gear!
In your case I think that the "insurance coverage" excuse would be called
for ... and offer to shoot a roll of his kid yourself.  If this doesn't
placate him, then you can write him off as an obnoxious jerk.
