It seems many are missing a feature which would limit the
*longest* shutter speed to something handholdable
(e.g. 1/focal lenght) when flash is used in Av mode.

This would help e.g. when you need to move in a hurry from indoors
to outdoors (e.g. when a just married couple exits the church):
- Indoors the flash would give most of the needed light while the
ambient light would be underexposed or not depending on the case.
But the exposure time would never exceed the limit, e.g.
  1/focal length.
- Then outdoors the sun would give enough light for the Av mode to
give proper exposure and the flash would be only a fill-in light
  source.
- The change from flash as the main light source to fill-in should
be where the ambient light starts to give enough light for proper
  exposure.

This functionality should be CF-selectable and it should work
only when the flash is ready.

I can see one option even now - to use Tv mode (e.g. 1/90 sec)
without the SafetyShift functionality but then indoors the
aperture would always be the largest one (no good e.g. with f2.8
lenses).
