No, Elan 7 is a replacement for EOS 50 a.k.a. Elan II
I would say that EOS 5 is closer to EOS 3 than it is to EOS 7.
But neither EOS 3 nor EOS 7 are replacements for EOS 5/A2/A2E
As far as I know EOS 5 is still in production.

It depends on your needs. I would recommend getting EOS 5 because
of spotmeter.

Used EOS 50/Elan II might be an option - you can find one for about
1/2 price of the new EOS 7 and save for better lens.
