Hello,

I recently went through a similar process when I decided to upgrade from my
Rebel 2000. I was deciding between the EOS 5, Elan 7 or an older Elan. For
me, money was a concern and the Elan was the cheapest option. I finally
settled on getting a used EOS 5. I was able to get the camera and a Canon
28-105 lens for less than the cost of a new Elan 7 so I went that route
(because I was also really interested in the lens too!). I also had 2 lenses
that would not work with the Elan 7 so that was a consideration for me. I
have been very impressed with the EOS 5, I really love the spot meter. I'm
sure the Elan 7 is technologically better, but for me the EOS 5 does
everything I need and was less expensive, even if I have to fix the command
dial some day I will still have paid less than an Elan 7... I guess if money
was no issue I would have gone with the Elan 7 just because it is newer, but
now that I have the EOS 5, no regrets, I really like it!
